The People Who Work in The Gloriously Grimy Soils - Grover Korn (Lincoln, Nebraska)
Thanksgiving of Long Ago:
A time When we Feasted A time When we Gathered
A time When we gave Thanks for the Harvest
That's what Thanksgiving Once Was
But Alas,
Thanksgiving is Now a Time
To Overeat
To Slop Around
To give In to the Commercial Glut
So Many, Many Simple things we Could be Thankful for
But Yet, we Clearly choose to Simply Ignore
So Who is Thankful Now?
The Corporations to whom we hand Money
Every Thanksgiving, Every Year?
Why Don't we Disappoint them?
Why Don't we return to Giving Thanks for the Harvest?
Why Don't we give Thanks to the People?
The People who Work in the Gloriously Grimy Soils
The People who Tend to the Gloriously Grimy Soils
The People who Harvest from the Gloriously Grimy Soils
Laboring day In; day Out
Through Daunting tasks
We would Never Deign to Deal with
To Deliver this Fare
This Earthy Corn and Beans and Squash and Turkey
Of Which we Take for Granted
All from the PEOPLE who work in the Gloriously Grimy Soils.
